Tell us about yourself. How did you become a sports dietitian? I have always loved sports and sought a career through which I could help athletes of all levels achieve their personal best performances and long term health. I am so glad I chose this career path because I find my work as a Sports Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist very interesting, fun and fulfilling.
What other areas of dietetics are you interested in? I am most passionate about delivering sports nutrition and healthy lifestyle education to regional areas throughout Australia. It is so fulfilling and worthwhile to be able to take knowledge and resources from the city out to rural and remote towns – the people in these areas are so appreciative and eager to learn.
Why did you become involved with SDA? I wanted to be at the cutting edge of sports nutrition in Australia, and was especially eager to learn from the most amazing dietitians in Australia (who happended to all be active members of SDA).
What do you see are some of the major issues for SDA over the next 5 years? Continuing to expand the profile of Australian sports dietitians throughout Australia and the world. It will also become more important for all members to work together to develop planned, targeted and staged sports nutrition programs within each sport that we deal with.
Do you participate in any sport yourself? I started playing hockey from the age of 6 and played at an elite level until age 24. Since then I have loved enjoying and challenging myself in a variety of sports including athletics, cycling, triathlon, touch football, European handball, half marathons and outrigging.
Which sportsperson (or team) do you admire the most and why? I admire the commitment and dedication that all elite athletes put into their sport to make them the best athlete they can possibly be.
