Low carb diets for weightloss in athletes

Controversy over the most effective, long-term weight loss plan continues. Effective weight loss can be achieved by any strategy that consistently results in a decrease in kilojoule (Calorie) intake, relative to the kilojoules (Calories) burnt.

In principle this is simple, but in practice it can be challenging to consistently achieve the right energy balance and keep body weight and fat under control in the long term. Like any diet, low carb diets can produce weight loss in the short term but their track record is not good long term.
